Introduced from South Africa in 1772 by Kew Garden’s first plant collector Francis Masson and his colleague Carl Peter Thunberg, the species Pelargonium sidoides Magenta Form bears soft powdery grey/ green foliage and small flowers held on arching stems. The flowers are a dramatic rich magenta colour, appearing almost black in some lights. Grown traditionally for its medicinal benefits and still used today in cold/flu remedies, this plant is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence. Each plant arrives planted in a terracotta 15cm pot.
